Mr. Larry
Olsen
When Larry was eleven years old, his parents and sister, Nancy, encouraged him to take up playing the coronet because of his love for music. He not only found that he had a natural ability, but he could produce a beautiful and mellow sound from a young age. At age seventeen, Larry switched from the coronet to the B flat trumpet. In 1976, he was hired to play with The Polka Towners. For Larry, this is where the fun of music all began, as he learned to play and sing Polish polkas, waltzes, and obereks. In addition to the trumpet, Larry plays the rhythm guitar and occasionally plays the bass for fun. At times, Larry's nice signing voice has afforded him the opportunity to sing lead vocal and he often sings back-up vocal harmonies. Polish polkas are his favorite to sing. Larry's dedication and commitment to polka music is truly visible in his playing. He wants to do everything possible to keep polka music going for generations to come.
